So, new update on the Warhammer Mighty Empires campaign. I got my butt whooped! In the two games following the first two, I was massacred twice! The first time was by a fellow Warriors of Chaos player just joining the campaign. The second time was by an Ogre Kingdoms player just joining the campaign as well. Even though I lost, I still had some fun, and learned a few things, namely screening. I call it screening, but there are many other terms used, bait and lure, chaff, what ever suits your vocabulary. Whatever you call it, the main idea is to get cheap, preferably fast units out ahead of your main force to prevent enemy units from charging your more valuable units. Then, whether your screening units charge or get charged, or not at all, you can control where enemy units move and how they (get) charge(d).

The next game I played, this last weekend was a draw. The deployment was pretty standard, but the objective was to control a Sorcerous Portal in the center of the table, if neither player controlled the portal, it was a draw. Game length was random. At the end of turn four and every turn afterward, a die was rolled. If the total of the turn number and die was less than ten, the game continued.

The game I played against the Dwarves continued on to turn 5. 2,000 point limit plus points from gold mines or raiding.
This isn't precise, but this is roughly what his army consisted of;
  • General on shield bearers.
  • Unit of Miners
  • Unit of Slayers
  • Some other large unit of dwarves
  • Unit of Quarrellers
  • Cannon
  • Organ Gun
  • Bolt Thrower.
I took the "Scouts" bonus from the Mighty Empires Rule Book. This forced him to deploy his whole army first, and gave me first turn.

We rolled for, and placed terrain, as well as table sides. He set all of units on hills or behind cover, which I expected.

My army consisted of ;
  • Sorcerer Lord
  • Wulfric the Wanderer
  • Two Units of Warriors
  • Unit of Marauders
  • Two Units of Warhounds
  • Unit of Marauder Horsmen
  • Dragon Ogre Shaggoth
For most of the game, I was maneuvering my units to try and get in combat. The Warhounds did their job wonderfully. One kept a bolt thrower busy for three turns, with just one warhound left. The other unit died in one or two turns. The shaggoth took a cannon to the face, leaving it with only one wound, which it lost shortly afterward. However it charged a unit before dying, causing it to flee from terror! The Marauder Horsmen kept failing charges and getting shot before they even got close to anything. His organ gun misfired, leaving it useless for two turns. A unit of warriors and the sorcerer were chased to my table edge by the slayers. The other unit successfully chased the fleeing unit off the table that had been running from the shaggoth. We kept forgetting to roll in for his miners, and my marauders. His miners never got close to anything, but my unit of marauders charged the quarreler's before the game ended.
It was a fun game, that ended for both players on equal terms.

Something that has been bugging me the entire time, is movement trays. Having to borrow someone elses army, means I'm also scrounging up whatever movement trays I can, because the owning player is using his for a different army. This is making me use bases too wide, which is troublesome for moving, and also rank-file setups. So I made my own out of some cardboard to solve the problem.
